Built to take a beating!
Expensive, high-performance equipment is brought in, with correspondingly high demands on the quality of the cabling. But the cables need to offer far more than good transmission properties. They have to withstand a great deal of physical stress: they are yanked, knotted, trodden on, dragged through dirt and water and sometimes even driven over. They are also exposed to rapidly rising temperatures from spotlights and to high humidity. Technicians also attach great importance to the cable being quick and easy to lay and offering a long reach.
What are the advantages of an active optical HDMI cable compared with a standard cable?
The HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 certified AOC cable combines the advantages of an optical cable with those of a classic HDMI cable. But while a pure copper cable reaches the limit of its transmission capability at a maximum of 20 metres, the fibre/copper hybrid easily manages up to 100 metres. Thanks to the integrated optical sensors, consistently high transmission quality is possible. Despite its slim design, it offers stable 4K@60 Hz transmission and 18 Gbit/s over a reach of up to 100 metres. A further advantage is the very slim, flexible cable, which is excellent for winding and unwinding and even withstands knots without any effect on the signal flow. The cable diameter is only 5.8 mm, which, combined with the flexible TPU sheath, makes it very pliable.
The robust construction of the cable with Kevlar reinforcement plus steel armouring achieves very high compressive and tensile strength. It withstands crushing of up to 200 kg for short periods and tensile loads – even over the long term – of up to 40 kg. This also results in high resistance to breakage and damage from rodent bites.
The plugs are every bit as high quality as the cable. The housings are made of high-grade metal, which ensures a stable plug connection. Each end is also fitted with an IP68 plug protector with a screw-off cap, which protects the plug heads from dirt and moisture during storage.
All in all, the HDMI AOC cable offers an excellent combination of performance and robustness and is a great choice for anyone who needs a stable and reliable HDMI connection that meets the demands of challenging events and installations.
Visitors to Prolight + Sound were able to see at first hand how our cable transmits signals while at the same time serving as the suspension for a 14.6 kg screen – you can find the video here: Steel-armoured HDMI AOC cable
